Transfer Sim card from Disabled iphone to another iphone

My iphone got disabled while in my pocket--I must have entered in the wrong password too many times. I do not have a backup nor have I plugged it into Itunes beforehand. Can I take the SIM card out of the disabled iphone and put it into another one?

Hey there, Ryan,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities for help with your disabled iPhone. If I understand, you want to know if you can take your SIM out of the current iPhone and put it into another. I'd be happy to provide you with some information!

If the iPhone is on the same carrier or is unlocked for use with any carrier, and takes the same size SIM card as your current iPhone, then you should be able to transfer it for use to make and receive cellular calls, text messages, and other services from your wireless carrier. I would still encourage you to check with your carrier to find out if they have any specific requirements or need any device information.

If you are able to switch the SIM, it will only allow you access to carrier services as it does not back up or store any of your data from the iPhone; that is done either through iCloud or iTunes, as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support . You mention you do not have an iTunes backup, but if you use iCloud it's possible to get some, if not all, of your data back without having to use a different iPhone.

First, to get back into your current iPhone follow the steps in If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support . Once you've done that, you can check for an iCloud backup during the setup process (you will be asked if you want to restore from an iCloud backup, say yes and follow the prompts).

You can also sign into iCloud.com on a computer using the same Apple ID you use on your iPhone to check for synced data, like contacts, reminders, Calendar events, and pictures. These items don't require a backup to be restored, and once you're signed into iCloud can turn the sync for each on (or leave it off) as you'd like.

Have a great day!
