Mac Numbers fails to export to Google Sheets

I'm collaboratively working with a group of people who don't have Apple Macs. We're using Google Sheets to share spreadsheets.

However, Numbers 5.0 doesn't seem to produce an excel spreadsheet that is compatible with Google Sheets. I've tried both .xlsx and .xls but Google comes up with "unable to convert document".

I transferred the file to my Raspberry Pi and used LibreOffice Calc and saved it as a .xslx and Google Sheets was able to convert it but this seems a little OTT.

Anybody any ideas?

Greetings, janefromnottingham.

It appears that you're having an issue with Google Sheets converting a spreadsheet you've created in Numbers. After converting the Numbers spreadsheet to an Excel spreadsheet, it won't import. Google Sheets produces and error message stating that it's unable to convert the document. I'm happy to help.

Upload files and folders to Google Drive -- Review the information Google has provided. If the issue persists, contact Google for support.

Convert documents into Google formats

If you want to upload files like Microsoft Word documents, you can change a setting to convert files.

Note: You can only change Google Drive settings from your computer.

  1. Using a computer, go to drive.google.com/drive/settings.
  2. Next to "Convert Uploads," check the box.

Take care!
