My Mac is telling me to call Apple tech support and froze my Safari

Could this be a virus? Or a Scam? It froze my Safari wouldn’t let me close it kept popping up a page to print off a paper that said to call Apple tech support giving me a number. While a voice was telling me to call Apple tech support saying if I don’t they will send my credit card number and information. I didn’t call the number just took me awhile to force close it. Could they still have acces?

This is a scam.

1. Click  in the menu bar and choose “Force Quit”

or press command +option + esc keys on the keyboard together.

In the window that opens up, select “Safari” and click “Force Quit.

2. Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
