When I turn my MacBook Pro on it loads halfway then the bar freezes and the screen goes black

The Apple sign comes on, it loads halfway across the bar the freezes. The screen then hoes black. Any ideas how to fix. I have turned up the brightness.

MacBook Pro screen goes blank on startup When I boot up my MacBook, the Apple logo and the load bar appear. After 2/3 in, the screen turns off for half of a second and turns back on.
