Exterior storage problem

G drive mobile usb-c stuck on “stopping“ for 12 hours: cannot eject it! Since have learned about Time machine & how to back up files on exterior hard drive. It is ready to backup 327.15 GB. What do I do?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

WD Elements external Hard drive back up issue I have been unable to complete a back up since May this year. When I connect the WD Elements is starts the back up but wont complete and I cannot exit the Hard Drive to close it.
