Apple Watch keeps going in and out of sleep?

When my Apple Watch series 1 is on the charger, it keeps going in and out of sleep mode, going to a screen with green numbers. It just started doing this after the latest update. Anyone know if there’s a setting or something i can change to make it stop?

From your description your watch is working as designed. While charging the screen will blank after a short delay, and will wake again to show the time if the watch detects movement. Be aware the movement detection is very sensitive, I can wake the screen on my watch simply by tapping the corner of the coffee table where it is charging.
