When I export HEIC phots to a NAS the file name becomes something like T%IS6PiwTbqTdN6mAbMkTg.jpg. Is there anyway of export with a "standard numerical file number" like the old jpeg version of pictures. As the pictures appear to have some kind of random naming, organising them by time and date is pretty hard.

How are you exporting the HEIC files? Any HEIC image files taken with my iPhone X are having names like IMG_8953.HEIC or similar. Are you using a third-party application for exporting or editing the files?
When you export your photos on a Mac you can use a file naming preset and use a custom filename on export, for example the preset "Sequential". Then filename will be prefix followed by a running number.
I cannot help with the NAS. Have you tried to use "File > Export > Export original file" in Photos to save the photos to a folder on your Mac? Then use the Finder to move the files to your NAS?
Thanks for the reply, I just air dropped the pictures to my mac from my phone. On the Mac the pictures are titled in the format IMG_1349.HEIC it’s just when I save them to the NAS, Synology DS216+II, that the file numbering changes to an apparent random stream?
