Obviously, I've already looked in that folder and the only thing there is a folder with Google Chrome apps. Is there some setting that hides the files? I don't have a great memory so I can't remember the file folder setups from the past. I appreciate any help.

It takes noticable longer to boot into safe boot mode, as the the system cache/launch service data base files are rebuilt.
After it is complete boot to log in screen, reboot as normal and test.

In your Applications folder, open a New Finder Window and in the Sidebar you should see Applications under the Favourites heading.
My computer's been backing up with Time Machine and it filled up hoops. My backup is currently a hundred gigabytes.
How do I get to that and make it smaller? Matter of fact I just want to wipe it out and I want to start a different backup system.

Well that's weird. Does launchpad access the secret folder?
There isn't a secret folder.
Cmd-shift-A or choose Applications from the Go menu.
Is it just missing from your Sidebar and Dock?
Your first backup should only be as large as the disk it is backing up.
To reset it, turn off automatic backups, remove the backup disk from Time Machine, then format the drive using Disk Utility.
