anytime I take portrait mode photos, overnight they go back to normal photos. The blurry portrait effects revert back to normal... why is this?
i have the current iOS 11.3 and I’m using the iphone X
i keep getting notified that my iCloud is full. I’m not sure why that would have anything to do with my photos not staying portrait mode but it might?
I noticed this happening when I was on holiday in France 3 weeks ago. Assumed it was just because wifi/4g issues overseas caused syncing issues but it would be fine once I got home. Turns out that every single photo I have edited (around 2000+ out of 20,000 as most edits I automatically 'favourite') have all gone! It's still happening now though, usually a few days after I take and edit a photo. The strange thing is i've paused uploads to iCloud yet it's still happening. All the edited photos DO appear to be on my iCloud account, but not sure how I can get these to sync down to my iPhone. I don't want all the unedited versions on my phone to overwrite all those on iCloud. :/
This happened to me too for a few pictures and not sure why but what seems to happen is if I upload to an icloud folder it auto reverts it but it's not permanent. Go to the portrait pictures, edit, you will see a portrait button at the top center of your screen, press it and you will get your depth back. Phew!
If your picture is a portrait photo and it reverts back to normal you can go to the picture and press “edit” then on the top of the screen it says “portrait” press the word portrait and press save . It will bring the blur back.
Why hasn’t apple done anything about this issue? I have a problem with all of my photos unediting, not just the portrait mode. My cropped photos un crop, my black and white photos go back to color, etc... For me, it is not a storage issue because I still have plenty of storage left. I know this is a first world problem, but this issue is really annoying and needs to be addressed.
I had the exact same problem with my portrait mode pictures but I am pretty sure I figured out how to get them back... if you click to edit ONLY the pictures you took portrait mode in, there should be a little box at the top of the screen that says ‘portrait’ and when you click on that it should go back to how you originally had your picture. You could even choose at the bottom another option in portrait mode. I hope this helped!
I just found around 150 photos which I had edited, all revert back to their original overnight (very very sad face). I have plenty of storage, this is the first time it’s happened.

They seem to be okay now. I turned off the option to save photos to my iCloud so I think that must have been the issue

My current work-around is to duplicate any portrait mode photo before editing it. I only edit copies of the portrait pictures. This way, the original will keep the depth effect.
And portrait mode is huge element of their marketing strategy. I want to throw my TV in the street every time I see a iPhone X commercial that highlights the portrait mode feature.
