Cannot log out guest user after High Sierra update

After upgrading an early 2011 MacBook Pro to High Sierra, when I "Log Out Guest User" I get a black screen with just the cursor. This used to work ok before the upgrade. I was for one hour with Apple Care on the phone. When they had me boot in safe mode I was able to log in as regular user, but when I went back to regular boot mode the problem came back.

Any ideas?

Problem with guest account Never tried it before so I was trying to see what it did so I can let someone use my MBP for web browsing because that's person's PC is on the fritz. However, I wanted to see if maybe I could try the guest account because when I've lent it out before I've ended up with Safari folders modified (once even deleted) and my desktop folders shuffled around. So I entered the guest account. I did open a folder and got into Applications to start Firefox and even create an alias. However, I've never done this before so I tried logging out. I got something about the keychain being deleted (I canceled) and then I got a black screen with an arrow cursor. After a minute I just powered down with the power button and powered on again. I could get into my normal administrator account, so I logged out and got into the guest account again. When I tried logging out I got the black screen again, but no message about the keychain. Anyone know what's going on? It's a mid-2012 non-Retina with an SSD, if that helps.

High Sierra guest user login option disappeared The guest user option on my High Sierra on login screen has disappeared. I have restarted the computer and checked the system prefs. Guest user is enabled, as is "display users as list." What happened and how can I fix this? Thanks!

mac OSBig Sur 11.2 guest user created I updated to 11.2 on the M1 Mac Mini yesterday. I had to reboot after two attempts to installed failed with an error message that it was unable to download, no internet connection. Yet it had started and I was connected. First time I've seen that with an update on this computer. Once it installed, the startup screen presented with a Guest User icon log in option. I have never turned this on or had a need for it (I fly solo) It appears the Mac somehow added after the update?
