time machine password lost
My time machine is showing as not connected. When I press the 'connect as' button I get asked for the password, which I have forgotten. How can I get past this?

Hi there, BigVern!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are trying to backup your Mac to Time Machine and are being asked for a password which has been forgotten and I am happy to assist. Since you have forgotten the password, you will need to check out this article for macOS Sierra: About the Time Machine backup password and then take a look at these steps in this article for How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac and create a new Time Machine backup.
Also, check out this article with information about Backup disks you can use with Time Machine in case you need to format the disk you are using and create the new backup.
Have a great day!

Hi Sarah_S1
Thank you for the reply. It was a very simple fix in the end. I opened Airport Utility and typed in a new password.
Then I pressed 'Connect As' in a new Finder window and entered the new password.
