Importing from video camera to FCPX problem

The data stream is being lost in the connectors I’m fairly sure. If the timecode doesn’t pass through properly capture often fails. You might have to acquire cabling that simplifies the connection or another computer that you can use to capture the tape.
The application can’t capture from the tape properly. There’s either a recording or playback problem that prevents the application from reading the timecode correctly. You might try capturing using the QuickTime player.
Connect the camera and use File>New Movie Recording.
Are you using some adapters to get your cabling connected your new computer? Some such as the Rocket adapter seem to have problems passing data through properly.
Was this a tape camera? If there are breaks in the timecode during playback the tape will break into separate clips. That’s what it looks is happening.
Not sure what the second image is showing.
Tom I want to thank you for your help the good news, I dug up a old lMac pro with a Firewire connection and it worked great (so much for adapters and dongles ) the bad news I have 3 months of uploaded video to redo. but you saved my home movie memories!
I tried iMovie same issue! I have done this before with the same camera with no issue only thing that changed I I now own a iMac Pro (one step forward 2 back I guess) I have no idea how to import movies with QuickTime any information 'HOW TO" would be appreciated
Yes many adapters firewire 500 > firewire>thunderbolt>thunderbolt3. I "Connect the camera and use File>New Movie Recording" but it goes directly to the built in camera on the iMac so mall I see is myself
Yes it's a mini DV tape but if its a 2 minute clip it breaks it up into 20 short clips almost frame by frame. The second picture is my import selections
In the interface that appears on the camera display there’s a popup that gives you various options.
