High Sierra won't update

I keep downloading the updates, but they won't install. I'm having trouble with 10.13.4 - I've 'downloaded' more than three times, and when I go to install, I get a message that it did not. I can't figure out why.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

What to do next?I have tried performing the updates via the App Store notifications and they always result in a failure to update. I have downloaded the update packages and tried to install that way and they fail as well.The package opens, reboots, the screen comes up "installing update" then when the progress bar is about 1/8th of the way across, the machine reboots and after startup displays the notice that the update failed to install.I am NOT using any Anti Virus Programs, Thanx!

Make sure it's not already installed.

Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen.

From the drop down menu click: About This Mac

Select the Overview tab. That will tell you exactly which macOS is currently installed.

Have you tried downloading the FULL installer and install this from the App Store instead of the Updates?

It says that 10.13.2 is installed
