iTunes 12.7.4 audiobooks scrambled grid view

How do I reverse install to iTunes 12.7.1? The newest version of iTunes (12.7.4.76) is scrambling and duplicating all of my audiobooks in Grid view. I use these audiobooks for my work as a language teacher. This bug has been well-documented in Apple Support discussions and the only advice is to reverse back to a 'safe' version of iTunes (12.7.1) . How? This is VERY VERY ANNOYING btw!

This is a message I copied to iTunes tech support who said they couldn't help as I needed to contact Apple support which I can't do because my Mac is out of warranty!

Hmm, View as Author by Author wouldn't have required changing any tags. Mixed in a field for multiple items tells you that they are not all the same. It looks from here as if you have overwritten the track names with the value author? What did you actually do? Do you have Time Machine or some other active backup running so you can restore the original versions of these tracks?

Great, once you've restored the tracks you'll need to step through them to get iTunes to re-read the tags, unless you restore an appropriately timed version of the database too.

My script adjusts the Sort Name value of each selected track, leaving other properties alone. Each item is given a distinct value that groups and sorts in the correct order. You could potentially make 56 individual edits by hand, but it would be dull.
