Can't log into iCloud, AppleID or Apple Communities on Safari

As of two days ago, I cannot login to my iCloud, appleid.apple.com, or even Apple Communities on Safari. When I try, the spinner sits endlessly in iCloud until it throws the error message:

ERROR

The Apple ID auth widget failed to load within the expected timeframe.

On The Apple ID page, the spinner spins endlessly. When I try to click a link to the Apple Communities it goe to an error page that says "Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "idmsa.apple.com".

All the settings are correct. All updates are done. Browser cache and history are cleared. All plugins are removed. All network connections look fine.

However, logging in to iCloud, Apple Communities and my Apple ID all work just find through Google Chrome, which is what I am on now, so it is a Safari issue.

Any help anyone? I can't be the only one to run into this recently.

Current OS is High Sierra 10.13.4.

Just so you know, Apple Support and I did speak yesterday, and this was sourced to an issue with AVG Anti-Virus after testing out the issue in Safe Mode. The AVG Anti-Virus Web Shield was not allowing log in to any Apple site after a recent update. found no issue to handle, so for now just deleted AVG and am using another antivirus.

Hello greekman35,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use Safari on your MacBook Pro to access Apple services like iCloud.com but you don't have this issue with a different browser. You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

Loads only required kernel extensions

Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically

Disables user-installed fonts

Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log into your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
Limited graphics performance in OS X recovery or safe mode

It is not required or even prudent to use a third-party anti-Virus on your already well-protected premium quality Macintosh computer.

They waste system resourses scanning for patterns that could not possibly become executable, and make your Mac unstable.

Recently, it has come to light that several of these packages hack into your secure connections (mounting a man-in-the-middle attack) to be able to scan incoming and outgoing data. That is complete nonsense.

I strongly recommend you not run such packages on your Mac.

You can keep AVG, but open it and turn off Web Shield. That fixed the problem for me. Interesting though - iCloud opened fine with Firefox regardless of AVG.
