Installation of MAC OS 9 on iMAC

I want to install MAC OS 9 on a iMAC which has MAC OS X installed. Unfortunately the machine does not boot from the MAC OS 9 Installation CD, but allways boots MAC OS X.

Any ideas ?

Hi, Tom -

That model iMac needs the model-specific Software Install CD that came with it (blue or blue-gray label), which installs a non-standard OS 9.1; or a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD (white label, gold 9). No others will work as far as installing OS 9 goes.

It has been reported by some users of older Macs that after they have updated the firmware on their machines, the original OS 9 disk that came with them is no longer usable.

Like Cathy from above, I have some educational software I bought for my kids to use which said was OS X compatible on the box. When I get it home, it says I have to open OS 9.2 to use it. Well, my iMac that I purchased in the summer of '06 won't give me that option, and the install discs don't show me the OS 9 option either (this is what iMac help says to do). If there was an answer to Cathy's question, I didn't comprehend it in the responses.

Can my iMac run OS 9? yes or no

If yes, can I download OS 9 from the Apple site?

If not, where can I get it?

If I can't get it, how do I know in the future if a game can really run on my iMac before I break the seal on the box?

I want to be a fan of the Mac, but the Mac is not helping me be one right now.

thanks to anyone who can help.

iMac Mac OS X (10.4) purchased summer 2006

Thanks Mr. Archibald.

so now my question is, if Sheep Shaver requires OS 9.0.4, but my Intel CPU won't support any version of OS 9, is there any point in trying to use Sheep Shaver?

If it is worth a try, what's my next step? Do I buy Sheep Shaver? Is it a free download somewhere?

In the future of buying games, how do I know that one will actually run in OS X before breaking the seal on the box? The two games that I bought say OS X on the box, but the instructions inside say to restart in OS 9.

Will my life as a Mac owner get easier, or am I doomed for a life of frustration?

thanks!
