Iomega zip-250 drive with 100mb disk

Finder on my Macbook does not always list my iomega drive as a device. Sometimes the finder window lists it, but mostly not. The disk utility "sees it" as a proper device and I use it to eject the discs. For a while I thought I couldn't use my zip drive with the Macbook and had to use my Powerbook 10.3 as an intermediary (it lists everything as I would expect).
I just discovered that Finder can find it as a file and regards it as a folder but I can only access it through the finder search.

Is there something I can do to get finder to list it alongside a USB memory stick in order to transfer files easily?
