Question

How do I remove the password for High Sierra on my iMac?

Since I upgraded to High Sierra I have to enter my password after even a short break from my iMac. I don't need it as I live and work alone.

iMac, iOS 11.3.1

Hi

I think for the security, the initial log in with password should be necessary.

However, if you do not want to "re-enter the password after sleep"

This might give you a glance on "how to"

Interestingly, what if the Mac got stolen?

Strong password could give you peace of mind regarding the data on the hard drive.

However, you can set up "firmware password" in case of thief, to prevent further functionality of the Mac (keep this in mind - only newer iMacs would store firmware password in "ATMEL chip" - make it very difficult to break -- 2011 models after??)

Thank you Georg, that was helpful in that I altered my password to a 3 letter one. This saves time as although I'm on automatic login I still get asked for my password! I now regret upgrading from Sierra because I'm now having other password issues with Mail. I'll persist.. and thanks again. Cx

What if you iMac is stolen? Not having a log in will give the thief

easy access to everything on your computer by simply turning it on!

Thank you for the offer of help with Mail. iCloud mail is perfect of course and is default. Of the others, I've worked through one on server settings and it works now. I'm waiting for help from web host for a new password for the other. I'll get there! All this started with the High Sierra upgrade...Grrr.

That was really useful, sametor. I'm getting to know the recesses of my iMac - although I've had it for years. The OS upgrade has precipitated all this. It was set at 'immediately'. I've altered it to after 1 hour. I can live with that!

Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click Users & Groups.

Click on Login Options at the bottom of the list of users.

Set Automatic login to On.

Maybe restarting your Mac helps. If nit check, if Automatic login is still activated after the restart.

What problems are you having with Mail?

Thank you Georg. I've restarted a few times but it still demands a password despite still set at automatic login!
