Brief pink static screen when waking from sleep

I just got a 13" macbook pro (128gb ssd, 8gb ram) as a gift and I love it. One thing I have noticed however is about 75% of the time when I open the lid of the computer to wake from sleep, I see a brief pink "static" like screen for about 1-2 seconds, and then it disappears. After it disappears everything is normal again and I can log in and use the computer with no issues. Just wondering what could be causing this and how to fix it? Computer is only 1 week old

MacBook Pro with Retina display, null

It is an artifact that should not occur. It may go away if you were to do an Erase and Install to see if that would fix it. You can work through the following before stepping into the deep end.

A Troubleshooting Procedure that may Fix Problems with macOS El Capitan or Later

You should try each, one at a time, then test to see if the problem is fixed before going on to the next.

Be sure to backup your files before proceeding if possible.

  1. Shutdown the computer, wait 30 seconds, restart the computer.
  2. Disconnect all third-party peripherals.
  3. Resetting your Mac’s PRAM and NVRAM
  4. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)
  5. Reset your Startup Disk and Sound preferences.
  6. Start the computer in Safe Mode. Test in safe mode to see if the problem persists, then restart normally.
  7. Use Apple Hardware Test to see if there is any hardware malfunction.
  8. Repair the disk by booting from the Recovery HD. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and Rkeys until the Utility Menu appears. Choose Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list. Click on the First Aid button in the toolbar. Wait for the Done button to appear. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu. Restart the computer from the Apple Menu.
  9. Repair permissions on the Home folder: Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder.
  10. Create a New User Account Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and enter your Admin password when prompted. On the left under Current User click on the Add [+] button under Login Options. Setup a new Admin user account. Upon completion log out of your current account then log into the new account. If your problems cease, then consider switching to the new account and transferring your files to it - Transferring files from one User Account to another.
  11. Download and install the OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Combo Update or 10.12.6 Combo Update or Download macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 Combo Update as needed.
  12. Reinstall OS X by booting from the Recovery HD using the Command and R keys. When the Utility Menu appears select Reinstall OS X then click on the Continue button.
  13. Erase and Install OS X Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the CommandandRkeys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
  1. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
  2. When Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry) from the Device list.
  3. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's toolbar. A panel will drop down.
  4. Set the Format type to APFS (for SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  5. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
  6. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  7. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

I have been having the same problem and thought this happened after Apple replaced the battery issues on Macbook pro 13 purchased in 2016-2017. However, after just speaking to Apple support, they say Apple is aware of the static screen issue and they are looking into the problem, as it's not a hardware issue we should wait until they find cause and update patch when release.

I went to another certified Apple repair place and they said the only thing to do is downgrade to Sierra. Why should WE have to do that work, go back in time, because Apple can't figure out what's wrong with our new machines? The repair guy said it's definitely how the video card is working with the software. // Of course, now I have another glitch. Instead of sleeping overnight (because I hate to see that pink static screen), I shut down each time - and... I see my desktop come back up, with icons on it of old docs, or an external that is not plugged in or open programs that are closed... and THEN it shuts down. I'll start another thread and see if THIS is happening to anyone...

Hope the static screen gets fixed in either 10.13.6 or 10.14...

I have the exact same computer as you and mine exhibits this issue as well although not all the time. It is intermittent. The first time I booted the computer, the Apple logo flashed red for a second which let me know something was wrong. It doesn't do this anymore when I reboot it but it was concerning considering it was a brand new computer. Now every so often that brief static screen will appear for a second or two and then go back to the log in screen and everything works properly. It's really weird. I think it's a software issue because this is the 3rd replacement computer that I've exchanged at the Apple store and all of them have had the problem. One of the replacements had OS version 10.13.3 and did not display the issue until I updated it to 10.13.6 and the issue returned. This computer has 10.13.4 and it has the problem so I think it's software related to versions 10.13.4 and above.

I have this, too! And unfortunately, working with Apple 'geniuses' has become my part time job... to no avail. Please be ready with your iPhone and take a video, and call Apple and ask for a supervisor, and they send you an email to download it to give it to the engineers. Maybe squeaky wheel, ya know? I've read that going back to 10.13.3 will work, but it's still present in .4 and .5... They said now to just wait for Mojave 10.14... But I hate that I have a new $1500 computer with what they're calling an 'anomaly.' I'd like one without it! Let me know if you have come up with any solutions. Thanks.
