Airport Time Capsule shows NO lights

My time Capsule has stopped showing any lights. There is no orange or green light.

I have switched the cord and power outlet but it is pretty dead.

Any solutions how to restart it.

Dead is dead.. it won't magically wake up ..

What model is it? Look on the base if it is flat one. Is it A1409 on the paper label? If so there is a fix for DIYer. You need to oven bake your TC board.

See instructions here.

If it is earlier one A1355 it could have much the same problem .. but is more likely a dead power supply or even earlier ones.. Last AC tower model as well can also have a dead power supply. I have repair info for the Tower model AC version as well as power supplies in earlier ones.. but it is much tougher job than a simple oven bake.

If it is the most recent model.. ie AC tower design.. is it under warranty or applecare still. ie it must be less than 3 years old and you have applecare on a computer, ipad or apple TV.

Unfortunately, the news is not good.

The A1355 version of the Time Capsule was introduced in Oct 2009 and discontinued in June 2011, so your Time Capsule is at least 7 years old and as much as 8+ depending on when it was placed into service.

Repairs.....even if a power supply for a 7+ year old product could be found.....would likely far exceed the cost of a new Time Capsule, so that would not really be a viable option at this point.

The average useful life of the A1355 model was about 3-4 years, so the upside here is that you have had much better luck with your Time Capsule than most other users.

If the data on the hard drive inside the Time Capsule is extremely valuable to you, a shop might be able to open up the Time Capsule and pull the hard drive out so the data could be transferred to another hard drive......but....here again, the cost of doing something like this would be prohibitive for most users....and....there would be no guarantee that the operation might be successful.

If you decide to dispose of the old Time Capsule, it would be a good idea to have the product crushed, so the data on the hard drive could not be retrieved by anyone.

The bottom line.....It is time to replace the old Time Capsule.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, to borrow a phrase from a very popular movie, this sounds as if the Time Capsule is really "most sincerely dead".

If we could learn what model of the Time Capsule that you have, we might be able to advise on the possibility or advisability of repairing the device.

Do you have the current "tower" version of the Time Capsule....or....do you have an older "flat" or "square" version of the product? If it is the older flat or square model (it looks like a small white pizza box), please look for the model number on the bottom of the device.

The model number starts with an "A" followed by 4 numbers. The model number might be embedded in the foam pad base.

This is important warning Bob gave..

To OP.. if you have a Time Machine backup on the TC.. it could include bank details and password as well as all the rest of your private info. You do not want it to fall into the wrong hands. If you encrypted the backup then not a big problem.. that is very secure.. but if it is not encrypted anyone with slight computer knowledge can access the TM backup and rebuild your hard disk with all your info.

If you have even minimal DIY skills you can open the cover and pull out the hard disk.. Failing that take it to a computer repair centre and get them to pull the hard disk and return it to you. They can keep the TC.. but you need the hard disk so you can wipe it.. or if you trust them get the store to do that as well.

If you have really excellent DIY skills it might be possible to repair but is not worth spending time and money on.. so this is only for hobby interest.
