Mackbook Pro won’t finish update

I opened my MacBook Pro 15” and there was a pop up saying there were updates and to install now or later, I clicked install now which prompted me to restart laptop which I did. Shortly after a message came up saying

“ macOS could not be installed on your computer.

The installer resources were not found. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again”

I have done this many times and this same message keeps coming up every single time. I have also quit the installer and a log comes up saying if I want to restart, shut down, or save log. I have clicked both restart and shutdown but every time my computer starts up again and asks for my password I type it in but the background is a dark grey which it normally never is. After I type in my password it does what it normally does then it stops for a while and the same message comes up. Plz help I can’t even go back onto my desktop or anything
