Can I pause and/or schedule iCloud Drive sync?

I am using a new MacBook pro with MacOS High Sierra and all software updated.

I want to be able to

(1) pause iCloud Drive sync right now because my connectivity is poor and it has made everything too slow to work; and

(2) schedule iCloud Drive to sync my documents only at night during my off-peak rates for internet; and

(3) decide to go offline from iCloud Drive when I am travelling but still keep the documents on my own hard drive (it threatened to remove them from my computer when I started the process to deselect the documents from the sync)

Can I do either any or all of these things?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, 4 TBT3), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

1. There is no way to pause the sync. It is either off or on. If you turn it off, the next time you turned it back on it will sync everything from the beginning.

2. You can't schedule a sync.

3. Archive or make copies of your iCloud data
