Drag it into your iCloud inbox.
Hello Winston,
Your suggested solution certainly sounds simple and straightforward enough, but I gather you haven't actually tested it yourself. I have –– some time ago in fact –– and, unfortunately, it just doesn't work. Any other ideas?
Regards,
Jack
You couldn’t be any more incorrect. I copy mail into 2 accounts regularly. Indeed all my mail from 2003 has been copied this way, I have about 50 GB of it. So yes, I’m adequately qualified to say it works.
Hello again Winston,
Thanks for your prompt response. Believe me, I'm not questioning your qualifications, far from it. Rather, I'm just trying to obtain some detailed help in copying/backing up all my Comcast Mail email to Apple's iCloud Mail.
As mentioned, I have not been able to simply drag emails over to my iCloud Mail inbox, or to any of the other mail folders I've created there. In fact, the only thing I have managed to do successfully to date is to forward Comcast emails to my iCloud mail address, a very time-consuming process at best.
So...if you would, please explain (in detail) the precise steps you take to copy/drag your Comcast email over to iCloud?
Regards and thanks again,
Jack
I've collapsed some of my accounts during this demo, otherwise the window would be unnecessarily big. My main email address is the 'Steve' address, it's a paid for professional service for my work. It's the equivalent of your Comcast account for the purpose of this demonstration. Please note the highlighted mail from yesterday.
Please note also, the small envelope with the number 9 appended to it, after highlight all of my mail from yesterday I ⌥+click and drag it to the Q2 folder in my iCloud account. I use ⌥+click (alt plus click) because this copies it rather than just moves it, I do this so as I end up with 2 copies. I keep mail for the last 4 or 5 years in quarterly folders in my iCloud account so as I can access it from any of my devices should I need to while away from my main computer. Please nor in the image below that there is now a copy in the Q2 folder.
The next step is to go back to my Steve inbox to put the mail in the second place, as I mentioned above. Please note again the highlighted mail in my 'Steve' inbox and the small envelope with the number 9 appended to it, however, please note that this time, I am dragging it to an 'Archive' folder that resides in my 'On My Mac' account. (I've now expanded my 'On My Mac' folder)
Unlike the first time, this time I chose not to use the ⌥ key so that I move the mail instead of copying them, which then left the 'Steve' inbox empty as you can note below.
The mail I moved is now in my Archive folder as you can see below. This archive folder has in it all my mail (well, all that I wanted to keep) since 2003, being there it is also backed up automatically to an external drive along with everything else that Time machine backs up for me.
