My IPhone X gets hot at times when using bu not all the time and the battery life is about half as our 8 Plus. It is only a little over 2 mo old and not heavily used. Any ideas why?

What will cause a IPhone X to get hot randomly when using? Battery life is about half of that of our 8 Plus. Not heavily used, mostly just calls, photos and accasional FB and internet.
