Imported movie--no sound

I have a MacBook Pro Retina (mid-2015) running High Sierra 10.13.4. I have imported video from a Canon Optura Xi (mini DV) digital camcorder into iMovie 10.1.9. (I have done this in years past with no problems.) The video imports with no problem; however, there's no audio. I have checked all the connections, and restarted both the camera and the computer.

Suggestions?

Note: a previous similar thread suggested importing it into QuickTime then iMovie, but I can't get QuickTime to recognize the device for import. When I checked the Mac's System Report, the device doesn't show up under Hardware, but under Thunderbolt, it does say "device connected."

Hi, Grace,

The no sound problem with DV import has been reported by other users. Take a look at the link below and see if there is anything in there that helps you.

Re: Imported DV is missing sound

The best workaround so far mentioned is to import the clip into iMovie 9, if you still have it on your computer. Then control click on the clip in iMovie 9 to reveal it in Finder, and then copy that clip in Finder and import it into iMovie 10.
