Etrecheck says Mac is v. slow

I am running Mac High Sierra latest update...Etrecheck is telling me the computer is performing below average whereas it usually is Excellent. I've cleaned up as much as I know how via EtreCheck and OS Cleaner 3 from the app store. I also downloaded the Malwarebytes app earlier today and it seemed to get rid of something - it took me ages to clean the Malwarebytes app off the computer afterwards and I remain unsure as to whether I can trust it. If it is a reputable app, please advise.

....Here is the EtreCheck report if anyone can help - I'd be deeply grateful.

Other than Etrecheck reporting your computer is below average, are you experiencing any problems? If so, more information would help. Have you run the report again since the reinstall? Etrecheck is a troubleshooting tool. It helps to know what the problem is.

Malwarebytes is a reputable program written by a long time ASC poster. Next time you want to remove it, use the uninstall instructions.

Malwarebytes uninstall

Most long time posters recommend not using any antivirus or cleaning programs. They can destroy normal computer operations.

I agree, but that's where I got into trouble!! My problems did start when MacKeeper snuck onto my machine - I hate it and would never knowingly install it so I don't know how it did that. Malwarbytes got rid of MacKeeper and I've deleted every skerrick of Malwarebytes. Maybe I've deleted stuff I shouldn't have.

Would you also say that OS Cleaner 3.app which I paid nearly $AUD40 for on the App Store - can't be trusted either?

BTW I've just re-installed High Sierra and am hoping that would fix any deletions I may have made to cause extra issues and will see what EtreCheck has to say now.

The "Performance" metric is solely based on how fast Etrecheck finishes.

Try running Etrecheck anything running in the background. There are a lot of things in your login items which I have no idea what they do, so I don't know if some of them might be hogging resources.

kernel_task is running quite a lot in that snippet. It handles most of the background processes, so with it running that high, it might have slowed down Etrecheck.

Hi Eric, Thanks for the advice. I have saved the Malwarebytes uninstall for possible future use. I won't re-download the app now because OS Cleaner 3 which I paid for on the App Store (hence figure it is reputable) has an ad/malware remover but there is no doubt that Malwarebytes quickly got rid of remnants of MacKeeper which, as I said earlier, invaded by stealth, not my design!

I actually got myself into trouble because I couldn't figure out how to eliminate the Malwarebytes logo from top menu!!!
