No Camera Click Noise iPhone X

I’m sure it did make a noise but I am unable to get the camera to ‘click’ when the shutter is pressed. Volume is up and the mute button is off, and I’ve googled and these are the usual culprits, but not this time. Other sounds (ringtone, lock screen etc) all work as expecte. I’ve restarted the phone but no luck there either. Anyone got any suggestions as to why it’s not working as expected?
