Recently I had to set up my MacBook Pro as a new computer. I am running OS 10.13.4 High Sierra, as I was before. Before the reset, I could send and receive texts and iMessage texts from my MBP, using the Messages app. Now I can only send and receive iMessages. Can anyone help me to restore text messaging?

Hi,
They don't need to be connected via Blue Tooth.
IF they are at the point where they are sharing iMessages and the iPhone is on the same Network as the Mac then in the iPhone Settings > Messages enable Text Forwarding.
If this already is you may have to reselect the name of the Mac in question.
The Mac may even be listed twice if you have not changed the computer name as it will treat it as if it were a new computer.
If you cannot make out which it should be turn the Text Forwarding Off.
Then reset the Text Forwarding.

In theory this should help, however, I have followed all the advice and either my phone or my MBP drops the network or bluetooth connection and I am back to where I started.
I now have both MBP and iPhone on the same network and agreeing there are connected on blue tooth and still no sharing of messages other than iMessages.
Thank you so much Ralph, normal service is resumed - it is so much easier to text from the laptop than the phone for long messages. 🙂
