Macbook pro not recognizing LG phone through USB port

Hi Folks

Hoping someone can help. I have a Macbook pro and it is not recognizing my LG phone. This is the third phone I've had this problem with. It recognizes other devices like the drone, and my external drive. I've tried different cables and in both ports, but nothing.

Bluetooth downloading/transferring is also very very slow from the phone.

Downloading programs from the internet is also very slow (didn't used to be that way).

OS 10.11.6 El Capitan

16 Gb Ram

SS hard drive

Any help would be appreciated.
