News Widget missing

I have an iPhone 6s and iPad mini 4. I recently updated both to ios 11.3.1. After the update, the News widget is missing from my iPad but not missing from my iPhone. This is very frustrating. How can I fix this problem? I am located in Ireland.

Hello Henry,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that the News widget disappeared from your iPad after an iOS update. I would be happy to help provide some steps to take next.

Let's start by checking if you can add the News widget back to your iPad from the Today View. The following support article will show you how to do so:

Use widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Specifically, use the steps here:

Add or remove widgets in the Today View

You can add and remove widgets and even reorder them so your favorite ones are at the top.

  1. Swipe right over the Home screen or Lock screen.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.
  3. To add a widget, tap User uploaded file. To remove a widget, tap User uploaded file. To reorder your widgets, touch and hold User uploaded file next to the apps and drag them in the order that you want.
  4. To finish, tap Done.

If you are not able to add the News widget with these steps, some helpful information to know would be: is the News app currently installed on your iPad? From Settings > General > Language & Region, does the iPad show the same settings as the iPhone?

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I was able to solve the issue on my phone in three steps.

1. Turn off app unloading (Settings ā€”>

iTunes & AppStoreā€”>OffloadUnused Appsā€”> turn this off)

2. Change region/language to US

(Settings->generalā€”>language &regionā€”>change both to United States)

3. Phone will take a minute to change this setting and then the News app should be visible with all your other apps. Click it to download it and then make sure the widget is there. You will see US headlines (CNN, Fox, etc).

4. Change region/language settings back to whatever you want

This worked for me. I hope it helps!

Ok, so I had the same issue. The option to automatically uninstall unused apps. Or put them to the cloud. Got rid of my app, or widget on my iPhone and I used it all the time.

I do have a solution, so slide it over to the left. And you will see a search option. Search for ā€œnewsā€ you will see in top hit. A red icon called news, click it and it will say itā€™s not installed and will download in the background, And bam! It will be back on your screen.

Hope this helps everyone

Canadian here. IPad mini 4 and iPhone 6. IOS 11.4.1. I used to have the News widget on my iphone but it disappeared. Must have been with an update. Iā€™ve done everything suggested here on both devices, three times, and still canā€™t find the red news widget anywhere including the app. store or using the search bar. Both devices set to U.S. Offload unused apps toggled off. How do I find the red news app? Any further ideas?
