I have AOL mail and it keeps asking for my password and keeps rejecting my password

I have AOL mail and it keeps asking for my password. It won't accept it and I updated it and it still won't accept it, so now I cannot send out my mail.

Mac Mail does not know the difference between "Server did not respond because it's not there" and "bad password". So its stupidly asks for your password again. and again. sooner or later it clobbers the old password and the whole business stops working.

I have several email accounts service by AOL.

AOL seems to feel free to take their servers offline on a whim.

Wait a while.

Mail > Window > Connection Doctor ...

... will show you exactly which Server is not working.

click on any red lights and it will take you directly to the appropriate parameters pages.

If you got on these forums, you have an Apple-ID.

If you have an Apple-ID, you have an @ iCloud.com email that goes with it.

You are NOT stuck if AOL is not responding.

So, I went into my computer today..not getting any mail for two days, but it said to do a security update for my computer from Apple , so I did and after it downloaded, then I went to system preferences, internet accounts and put my password in and all of a sudden I got my mail. I am concerned however , when this happens again because it has happened several times but in the past I just rebooted my computer and it fixed it , however this time it didn't. So, is there any way to guard against this for the future? Is there something I can do to stop this from happening right away?

Thank you for all your help.

Karen
