1:1 aspect ratio video ads black strings by sides

Hi!

I imported a 1:1 aspect ratio video to iMovie. When I save it, video has black sides. How can I export 1:1 (square video)

Thanks?

Hi,

iMovie has a preset 16:9 aspect ratio that cannot be changed. Anything smaller than that, such as 1:1, will be compensated for with black bars when you select "Fit" from the crop selection box. It shares out fine, but with the black bars. If you select "Crop to Fill" you can zoom it to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio, and then no black bars, but then you lose some of the picture.

You might be able to crop out the bars with the free download, Handbrake, or with the Quicktime Player's File/New Screen Recording feature, but I have not tried that.
