Your report is quite remarkable.

Many of your problems are likely cause by running a Third-party so-called Anti-Virus (Sophos) on your normally well-protected Macintosh computer. Their approach to finding Viruses is brain-damaged. Scanning your Mac in this fashion, reading and re-reading each and every file looking for patterns found in antique Windows Viruses does nothing to protect your Mac, and un-necessarily wastes massive amounts of system resources for this non-improvement.

In addition, several of these packages have been found to mount a man-in-the-middle attack on your encrypted connections to the Internet so that they can be first to detect and such pattern. This is a deep violation of Trust, and since most are inept at this intervention, they leave your Mac far more susceptible to attack. Yours appear to be doing this.

--------

Next, you have Clean-My-Mac installed. This package is dangerous in that it does not seem to know when to stop. Some users have reported that it damaged their Mac so seriously, a MacOS re-Install was required. Your Mac optimizes its cache files automatically, and takes care of itself, and doesn't accumulate filth that this or any third-party package can improve upon.

--------

It is unfortunate that Sierra patcher tool seem to require you too run with System Integrity Protection disabled. But the third-party packages you have installed do NOTHING to help protect your mac from its being attacked, and are extremely likely to be the case of your problems.

--------

In addition: Chrome is one of the biggest resource hogs around. There are far more well-behaved, slicker, and faster Browsers now available. Both Safari and Firefox have been recently updated, and you should look into using one of them instead.

--------

Chrome is such a resource hog that it is quite remarkable when an "ordinary" (something other than Compressor) Application exceeds Chrome's resource-hogging. But something called "Memory keeper" appear to be doing just that.

It claims to be from the Mac App store. On further research, that App is NOT currently available from the Mac App Store. It appears to be the dreaded pay-for-malware MacKeeper in disguise.

May 13, 2018 10:02 AM in response to MacDaddyRob

When you first posted your reports, they looked like serious memory problems. Mac Pro with Xeon Processor does not suffer from memory problems. It corrects errors on the fly and keeps working. That is why I asked what MacBOOK you were using.

In my opinion, your issues could entirely be caused by running so-called anti-Virus software. However, it is possible, as I noted, that your MacOS has been damaged by use of CleanMyMac.

You cannot expect such a heavily modified and partially-deleted MacOS to run without problems. In addition, after removing all the junk I mentioned, if the problems do not resolve, you may still need to re-install MacOS.

May 13, 2018 9:35 AM in response to MacDaddyRob

You also have WD extensions installed. That can be an unexpected problem as well.

Some of these third-party drive extensions maintain a Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) on your Drive, and simulate MacOS Volumes on it. This is generally NOT what you want, and the sudden loss of the loaded extension, or need to run Disk Repair or Install or Restore or Recovery mode, leaves you drive as an NTFS drive, and inaccessible to your Mac.

No third-party Drive Utilities should be used, and Drives for Mac should be Erased at installation.

--------

Your boot drive is a 3TB mechanical drive. MacOS fits on a much smaller drive, and even with spool and paging files on the boot drive, your Mac would run much faster with a separate, smaller Boot drive, with no production files on it. If these other files on the Boot drive are merely random storage, not accessed during production, that is acceptable.

Users who Install a low-latency SSD for their boot drive report, "It's like getting a whole new computer ! "
