Can't add new contact from i in messenger iOS 11.3.1

I recently purchased an iPhone 8+ which is running iOS 11.3.1. When i receive a message from someone who currently isn't in my contacts, I attempt to add a new contact. When I click on the circle with the i in the center, a compose new message pops up rather than the new contact screen. Previously, I was able to click on the icon and add the new contact. Also, I can't copy the phone number to paste into contacts manually. I've restarted, restored from backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is frustrating!

I also don't think all my messages are going through if I send to multiple people in one text.
