Secrity lock

I am using Safari 2.0.4. When I sign on to a site that should be secure, the lock does not appear. When I use Firefox, it is secure.

How do I manage to get security on Safari?

Imac, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My keychain browser window looks like this:

If you don't see the left column, take your mouse and click/drag to the right the left side grey border. That ought to reveal the collections column. Take note of the X509 Anchors collection.

Ok. Good to know the certificates are intact.

Go to your Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Move to the desktop the com.apple.security.revocation.plist file.

Restart Safari and try a https site. Does the lock appear? If not, quit Safari. Then, "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. Do this twice. Restart Safari again.

If the lock appears, you can move the file on your desktop to the trash. Otherwise, move it back to its original location.

Post back.

I do not have a security.revocation.plist file. Just a security.plist one. Nothing at all with revocation in the name. Should I move that one?

Well that's strange. Create a new user account, trying Safari<https from there.
If you need direction for establishing the account:

Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.

Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.

Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If the https site icon appears in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.

Post back with results.

Ok, Starman, you have been dealing with an idiot. For some reason I was looking for the lock in the address bar (where it is found in Firefox) and I just noticd that it is in the top right hand corner. I suspect it has been there all along and I really had no problem!

Thanks for being so patient.
