Opening Photos Library on Windows 10

iMac 2009 died, removed the hard drive to retrieve files. Can retrieve music video, and almost all data except photos from the photos library using MacDrive 10. The photos in the library master file appear to be there but all have file size of zero Kilobytes. Any suggestions?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Windows App MacDrive 10 opens the drive and can copy files. The problem is the photos library Masters folder shows all the images as zero bytes. Properties of the folder is correct several gigabytes. I am guessing is a protection or access problem. I was able to copy all of my itunes files using the app.

FYI I was able to completely rebuild my iTunes on a $200 HP Stream 32Gb laptop using external SSD. Complete install of iTunes and library on the external SSD.

Maybe need borrow a Mac to copy the photos.

You stated

If photos were in the library I deleted from iCloud to save iCloud memory. Had a backup drive on the iMac. Just days before noticed it was full and not update.

Therefore your issues was caused by your action as posted

If you were using iCloud Photo Library and deleted from iCloud then they were deleted from all devices since that is exactly what iCloud Photo Library does, keeps multiple libraries in sync

Have a nice day

Ok - but you posted in the iPhoto forum not the Photos forum and if you have El Captain then you have Photos 1.5, nearly two yeas out of date

and your taking offence to people trying to assist you while you refuse to even answer basic questions is way out of line

Since you are using totally different software than you originally indicated there are more questions, what are your iCloud settings on the Mac and if you are using iCloud Photo Library do you have optimized photos or download originals selected?

In spite of your aggressively attitude I wii request that your post be moved to the correct forum and continue to try to assist you if you will simply be cooperative

just simple communication problem.

not sure is El Captain.. is/was a early 2009 iMac whatever the latest everything installed.

Yes Photos not iPhoto.

So if discussion is moved is this link still good?

I reviewed the same question from aarlier post was closed.

yes using iCloud but only for camera roll not entire library. Did not know there is choice for optimized or originals. If photos were in the library I deleted from iCloud to save iCloud memory. Had a backup drive on the iMac. Just days before noticed it was full and not update. Also have google backing up camera photo. Is some very old photos that were in the iMac that wanted to recover. Then it became a challenge try to solve why are zero bytes.. pretty certain is access problem. I read that before backup/move the library need change the file security. Almost ready buy a replacement used Mac but decided no. Must be made of gold.
