Multiple duplicates being created in Recovered Messages

Following an email server upgrade from my ISP whenever I create a new email multiple duplicate copies of that email are created in Recovered Messages. It seems to create a new email about once every 30s for the duration you are editing the email.

Apart from the space consumed the main issue is that search results are clogged up with loads of duplicates.

I have tried to "rebuild" that mailbox but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm using Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.4 and MacMail.

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.2)

Hello Pottedjam,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with duplicate emails in the Mail app on your iMac when you compose emails. To help narrow this down, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log into your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
Limited graphics performance in OS X recovery or safe mode

If you're still having this issue, change the Draft folder from your email account to the Draft folder on your Mac in Mail Preferences and test your issue again.
