Activity Monitor disappears

Activity Monitor disappears

If I try to open the Activity Monitor it starts and then instantly disappears. If I click on its dock icon it appears and then instantly disappears again.

I tried deleting the preferences file, com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist and restarting, that didn't change anything. I also tried this set of procedures. If I log in as a guest AM works just fine, if I log in under safe mode AM works fine there too. Neither procedure affected AM's behavior.

I'm running OS 10.13.4 on a MBP(Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try Activity Monitor from there. Any improvement? Reboot normally and test again.

Since AM works for other users and in safe mode, this suggests that a third party software conflict may be to blame. You can investigate what is running "under the hood" via EtreCheck.
