Currently running 10.13.4 and need to add an image to my email signature in MacOS Mail App for work purpose. The image is a small .png file. Trying to get away from Outlook 2016.
I thought this used to work but I sure can't get it too now. The image just shows up as a file.

You seem to be getting what so many users have been trying to do, not have their images displayed in the body of the email but show as documents like you're seeing.
Are Mail's preferences set to have the email in plain text or RTF? If plain text try RTF.
Have you tried adding the image to a new email, add the rest of the signature and then copy and paste it into the signature preference pane?
Your email recipient's will not see the image in the body of the email unless they allow images to be displayed. Many email users do not allow images for good reason such as images can contain tracking web bugs and the email must be displayed as HTML.
Follow the steps in this post for adding an image email signature in High Sierra. An understanding of HTML and its styling (CSS3) would be an advantage, as your solution may require it.
Ultimately, you have no control over the mail user agent of the recipient. Some may show your signature properly, and others may shove it to the end of the email as an attachment.
Just tried this and it just makes it a file attachment in the email. I have also tried copy and paste into the signature as well as dragging the file into the signature. It always makes it a file.
I tried this on my Mac Mini since I was sitting here and it was in RTF mode. I will have to check the MBP later but I swore that it was in RTF mode.

Here is the interesting thing is that both of these are in RTF mode but it works on the Mac mini but not on the rMBP. Both are running the same version of MacOS (The latest)
