TextEdit for iOS

Does anyone know of a third party iOS version of TextEdit, that can edit TextEdit files directly? It is about the only stock macOS app that doesn’t have an iOS equivalent.

When syncing Desktop & Documents Folders via iCloud Drive from a Mac, folders for Numbers, Pages, Preview, and TextEdit are automatically created on iCloud Drive. The reason for this is to make it easy to view, edit and save these files from all devices.

Unfortunately, since Apple does not include TextEdit app with iOS, documents created with TextEdit on the Mac can only be “viewed.” They cannot be edited and synced like the other apps mentioned.

Third party “TextEdit-like” apps attempt to make substitutes in iOS for TextEdit, but none of the solutions are convenient. The problem is that the original TextEdit file which the Mac and iOS devices see on iCloud Drive does not actually get edited by the third party iOS version. What happens is that third party app makes a copy of the file in the third party format, so it can be edited using the third party app. Once saved (regardless if it is on iCloud Drive or not), the original TextEdit file being viewed on the computer does not contain the current edits, and is therefore, no longer current. The user must navigate to the new third party version of the file. This becomes a real headache, the more files that start to be edited. The user has to remember which TextEdit files have been converted to a third party document (making the original file seen by all devices, not current), and which ones have not been converted. The whole “convenience" of edits to an original file being seen by all devices is gone. Of course, none of this would be a problem if Apple made an iOS version of TextEdit (like they do for Numbers, Pages, Preview).

iPhone 6, iOS 11.3.1
