Maps has an incorrect 'Home' for me

Recently I've started using Maps on my iPhone 7 (iOS11). Maps will offer to provide directions to 'Home'; unfortunately, it seems to have guessed a location for my home that is actually on the next block over and a good bit away. It therefore is always sending me to the wrong street to turn on.

I tried going into Contacts and creating an entry called 'Home' with my street address. Unfortunately this hasn't fixed the problem, and it is still showing the incorrect 'Home' location on maps and as a destination option.

How can I fix this?

I get route suggestions all the time, so you're not alone there.

Something that might be worth a try to fix the problem of Maps suggesting to take you home (to the wrong address)

Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services (scroll to the bottom)> Significant Locations. It will need your touch ID to view Significant Locations.

From there you could either scroll to the bottom and clear all history (including any favorites), or you can select the locations of your home, slide to the left and tap delete.

From the Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services you could also turn off Location based alerts and suggestions.

You could also turn off Significant Locations so it will stop tracking your habitual patterns.

Edit: Additional info...

If you have iCloud Maps turned on, deleting the significant location history really won't work, because iCloud will repopulate the history.

So you would need to turn off iCloud Maps to prevent iCloud from synchronizing map data. Go to Settings-> [username]Apple ID -> iCloud -> Turn off Maps.

I imagine after a while you would be able to turn it back on, just give it time for the iCloud data to be wiped out.

Thanks, I think that led to a slightly roundabout way to a solution. I noticed when going to Settings > Siri & Search > My Information that there is a listing for me which, for some reason, does not exist as a card in Contacts. I added my correct street address to it, but noticed that it also contained the incorrect address as a secondary address. By hitting a couple of keys I was able to get to an option "Ignore" for that incorrect address. So I selected that, and all seems well now. I won't know for sure until I'm on the road again and Maps offers to provide directions to my home.

Maybe this will help...

You have to make sure that Maps Destinations is active in your Today view. To be sure, swipe down on your screen to bring up Notification Center. Swipe to the right to bring up the Today view, and scroll down and tap the Edit button, then add Maps Destinations, if it's not already active. From now on, you should be able to see information about your next destination in the Today view.

Then make sure in Settings>Notifications>Maps>Allow Notifications is on. Now it should (theoretically) notify you without having to go into Today view.

Edit: I typed the above before I saw your post at 9:36.

So I see you do have the widget (today view) active already.

Maybe toggling the 'allow map notifications' will reset it.

I've also noticed that ignored notifications tend to go away until the app is used again.

Unfortunately, these steps so far have not fixed my problem. As discussed, on my iPhone I went into Settings > Siri & Search > My Information and selected a contact card for myself with my correct home address.

However, today while out running errands I got a notification advising me (without me asking anything or opening Maps) that it would be "6 minutes home to Acme Moving Co." (the name of business on the next block over), and "traffic is light."

So it is still thinking that Acme Moving Co. is my home address. Any other suggestions from anyone for fixing this?

I should add that I routinely get notifications of suggested routes from Apple Maps when I haven't opened the app or asked Siri anything. I assume it's tracking my habitual patterns and/or looking at appointments on my Calendar. In general this is innocuous, but as noted it still thinks this moving company is my home address. In addition, it often mis-guesses the address I'm going to. For example, it usually misidentifies the location of my workout gym with the name of a yogurt shop a few doors down. Am I unusual in getting route suggestions like that?

Thanks much, Brian, this is great info. I see the top spot named in my list of Significant Locations is the Moving Co., which is actually a few hundred feet from my home, but on the next block over. I've deleted that and will see how it goes.

Do you know if there's a way to edit, rather than delete, the Significant Locations? There are numerous cases in which it guessed a business name which is close to, but not the same as, the business I actually visited. So the pharmacy shows up identified as an adjacent pet store, the gym shows up as a yogurt shop, etc.

I don't mind leaving Significant Locations turned on, it would just be nice to get it accurate.

I wish I could tell you how to trigger them. Sometimes it'll go for long periods of time where I don't get any, then it starts again!?!?

...and it only tells me how long it takes me to get home from work.

The Maps Destination Widget works. It's now telling me how long it will take me to get from work to home. But, I don't seem to get notifications.

I have noticed that, if you continuously ignore notifications from some apps, they stop sending them. Once I open and interact with the app, they start up again. Or is that my imagination? But I do use Maps not infrequently.
