What is ‘media’ on iPad storage

i have reviewed answers on this question raised in the past and all solutions suggested are wrong or the people who provided them clearly don’t have an iPad. My iPad runs ios11.3.1. When I go to settings/general/iPad storage, it tells me that most of my 28gb being used is ‘media’. Nowhere below that does it tell me what that media is and where it is stored. It does tell me what apps I am using and how much space they use, but that’s all. And it’s not apps that are taking up my space. Apple, can you help answer this question rather than endorsing incorrect answers provided in the past.
