Stopping an animation in Keynote

I am building some animated actions into a presentation in Keynote version 8.0.1. I'm running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4

The slides have full-screen images and I have them animated to move or scale really subtly. I don't know how long each slide will take to present and anyway I want the moves to be really slow, so I've set each animation to last, quite a long time - around 9 seconds - so they moves are barely perceptible.

Thing is, when I'm actually presenting I may want to click on to the next slide sooner than that, but the slide won't move on until the animation has completed.

Is there any trick to this in Keynote - getting the animation to stop on a click or cursor key and allowing me to move to the next slide?

Cmd+click doesn't work

Anyone got any solutions?

Thanks,

M
