MacBook Pro brief white (static) screen on startup.

I own a MacBook Pro 2017, no TB, bought in February 2018. Sometimes it shows a brief white screen (similar to 'static', not the normal white logo screen), before the login screen, but starts normally after that. The issue tends to appear after the MacBook is left closed for some time (like in the morning, the first time I open it).

I'm afraid it can turns on in a major graphics failure in the future. Has anyone ever experienced something like that?

Please try these resets, if you have not already.

1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.

You can take the Mac to the nearest Apple store to have it checked.

There are numerous reports of this happening, but ONLY in the most recent versions of High Sierra, and only on wake-from-sleep.

I am usually a strong advocate of reporting problems immediately.

But this one is likely just an error in enabling the graphics chip a second or so before the data are ready for display. Considering the major reworking of graphics software, still in progress, this is easily attributable to programming oversight, and is not likely (in my opinion) to be due to hardware failure.

Hi Grant, a short update. Since i've done the procedures suggested by dominic23 (NVRAM/PRAM + SMC reset), the issue seems to have disappeared. Maybe it's too soon to say that, but I also did notice the login screen is appearing a lot faster (almost instantly).I know this is what is expected, but sometimes, regardless of the white screen appeared or not, it used to take 2 or 3 seconds to appear (which I found VERY strange).

Thank you for your suggestion. I've tried both procedures. As it is not a persistent problem (it appears here and there), let's see what happens. I'll report if the issue is solved in a couple of weeks.

That's what I've suspected, and that's why I didn't give it too much attention. It's exactly what it looks like.
However, I've performed a SMC reset, just in case. Today the white screen didn't appear, and maybe it's just coincidence. We have to wait some days to see if it happens again.
I'm glad to know about the "numerous reports" about the issue; I couldn't find any similar report on the web, probably due to a bad search. Thank you.

Hi Grant. Well, I have to take it back. It just happened again. So, that's probably the issue you've mentioned, and apparently there is no relation with SMC or NVRAM/PRAM.
