Mail won't auto complete contact address

I have recently noticed that when creating a new email when typing the recipient address it doesn't auto complete.

I have read elsewhere that you go to preferences/composing and click auto complete but I don't have the selection of Auto Complete.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Contacts not accessible for emails I have a new Macbook Air. When I compose emails on Gmail and start typing a contact in the "TO" field the contact does not populate. I do not have this problem on my iMac, iPhone or iPad. I have looked at the various articles under Apple support without success. Is there a setting I'm missing? Thanks.

Cannot type a new email address into Mail send without it defaulting to a saved email address. How to type in a new email address into Mail send ( To: ) without it getting defaulted to some similar email address already used earlier.

Sorry I just rebuilt mailbox and it has corrected the problem.
