Question: My screen brightness keeps changing,

I have an iPhone 8 running iOS 11.4 (15F5079a) and my screen brightness has been changing automatically but the screen brightness in control center stays the same. Autobrightness is not on. The scroll in control center shows full brightness but it really isn't it's max brightness, there is no difference when I scroll from full brightness to half brightness.

Perhaps the "If your display is too dim or too bright" section of this article will help:

Get help with the display on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If not (and it sounds like a hardware problem from what you are describing), I would suggest following the advice at the bottom of that article:

If you don't see your issue listed or need more help, contact Apple Support or take your device to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

There should be no charge for the diagnostic service.

This did not help me one bit, sorry but I believe this is an iOS issue. This has started to happen when I updated to iOS 11.0 on my iPhone 6 Plus, never had any display issues before this update. After updating to iOS 11.1 I stopped updating and though it might just be the phone. So I upgraded to iPhone 8 Plus and is currently running iOS 11.4.1. My display is set to max, control center is set to max. Under general, accessibility, display accommodation, all settings is turned off. But still my screen dims to the point you can’t see it the display even in a dark room. The phone is also so hot to the touch with or without the lifeproof case. Never had this happen with the iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6 Plus and all the phones have lifeproof cases. The hot phone is new for me and it’s been going on for the past month since I bought the phone. Took phone back to sprint store and was told it’s not a hardware issue but a software issue. Had second opinion w/apple store employee and was told my phone is not the problem. IDK but with the continued problems plaguing apples iOS, I’m at the point of switching to android and I’ve been a iPhone user since the beginning.

It is not an iOS problem, but it is a programmed function when the iPhone overheats. Due to the phone overheating the operating system throttles system performance (occasionally causing crashes). iOS throttles settings like the amount of power being drawn out of the battery, screen brightness, system performance, and preventing stressful tasks for the CPU (It may block other features too). The problem is just overheating is bad for electronics, it damages the battery for the large amount of heat and any other internal components. iOS is just doing its thing to prevent the phone from being damaged permanently. (Doing research I found all this out)
