How can I text or make calls through my WiFi

Calls:

• If you have a mobile voice plan, an iPhone 6 or later, and your mobile carrier offers Wi-Fi calling you can use it for Wi-Fi calls - contact your carrier
• Otherwise, you will need a VoIP calling app such as Skype or Google Voice

Text:

• For SMS texts you MUST have a mobile voice plan. SMS cannot use Wi-Fi; it uses the carrier's voice channel
• If you only want to text with other iPhone users you can use iMessage, which does use Wi-Fi, but you still need a mobile voice plan to set it up as it requires sending an SMS to Apple servers in the UK

Note that to use an iPhone at all you must have a voice and data plan with a mobile carrier.

Wi-Fi calling is a feature of your carrier, talk to them about it

Apple's iMessage can use Wi-Fi to communicate with other Apple device (Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Watch) user.

SMS/MMS cannot be used with Wi-Fi alone.
