Since the latest update, the file open and saving is defaulting to the cloud OneDrive which is most irritating, and mainly causes me issues with my linked files.
I disabled the autosave feature thinking it would help, but no luck.
Even my pinned files, pointed to the mac hard drive end up saving to the cloud

The first time you save a file, the window that appears lets you set where the document is saved.
Have you tried the Microsoft Support link Bob posted?
Can you drag the files to iCloud Drive, open them from there, and then save them there?
I may not have expressed exactly my issue -- which is new since the recent Office (or OneDrive?) update.
- I open a file from my HD
- All its links that were pointing to files located on the HD suddenly point to their REMOTE version.
- When I come to save that existing file instead of saving to its original location on the HD they get saved on the OneDrive.
I've also disabled AUTOSAVE by default. But did not change anything.
Change the default save location.
I don't see where I can do this.
Also, when I open a file that is already on my hard disk, when I save it, it goes to the OneDrive on the Cloud.
and... my linked files that systematically become "REMOTE" as location

I'll suggest again, try the Microsoft Support Communities where everyone uses Office. If I had a Microsoft question I would ask in a community where 100% of the helpers there use Microsoft products.
