final cut pro keeps freezing then loading playhead at the end when I hit space bar to play maybe every 5 times
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)
whenever im editing and I hit the space bar to play final cut pro freezes and the ball spins. this only happens every few times I hit the space bar. im on a max out iMac pro so I dunno what the issue is
the media is .mov . stored on the macintosh hd. ssd drive. this problem is annoying. I didnt have this with 2 versions back. I dunno what is causing this issue. its like loading something when ever I play back but then the playhead moves to the end
.mov is a codec like what else. 1080p 24fps. never knew there was a rule to have media stored on separate drives when my iMac pro got a ssd. I got like 200 gigs left. this is a $8k computer and like I said before the program did not have this issue a few versions back.
As the system drive gets full it becomes more difficult to use and effectively slower and slower, especially if you are taking large files on and off it. So a couple of versions ago the computer might well have been working much better if you’re using the system drive for your media.
I have a much lesser computer than you, and I don’t have this problem. Obviously there’s a problem playing back your media, either processing it fast enough, or delivering it fast enough from its location. Maybe you have a hardware problem, though I don’t see why it would start suddenly now.
figured out my own problem. it had to do with having the external monitor plugged in. now I dont have it in its running fine. Idk why

What's the media, and where's it stored?
.mov is like no information. What are the specs? HD? 8K? 8-bit? 10-bit? H.264? ProRes4444? How much free space is on the system drive? Media should be stored on separate, fast drives.
.mov is the QuickTime framework. There’s something over 30 codecs listed in QuickTime options.
anyways the problem isn't the codec. there is a bug whenever I keep hitting playback on the space bar. it will freeze and load then move playhead to the end. thats whats happening
yeah but I still have 250 gigs left. how is that possible if I have it on this apple ssd iMac pro
the problem starts every 3-5 space bar play hits
I wonder if my external monitor has a problem to do wit it. but im not even using it to edit
I don't either. That computer should handle a second monitor without problem with HDMI.
