How much does it cost to replace a key on a macbook pro 13-inch keyboard

I came back one day from a trip to SD and found that my left shift key on my Macbook Pro 13-inch 2017 keyboard isn't working.

I restarted but it didn't help my problem at all, so I was wondering how much it would cost to replace that one key?

I have apple care but it expires june 10th, and I think that it's free under that 1 year warranty, but im going out of town back to college and I won't be back in time to make the expiration date. I just can't afford to extend the apple care because that alone is $269 and I am a broke college student (,: .

I just wanted to know how much it costs to replace the key without apple care?

And if it does cost money with apple care, how much would it be?

Thank you

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10.1.1

That's an entire top case replacement. Whether or not Apple can fix it where they refurbish devices/parts isn't known. However, there's been a lot of reporting that customers bringing in Apple notebook computers with keyboard issues were only offered entire top case replacements either under warranty/AppleCare(+) at Apple's expense or out of warranty at the customer's expense.

I suppose the thing you can do is contact Apple phone support and indicate that you have a problem that was discovered within the warranty period and try to make a convenient appointment. It's not quite clear what your situation is, but you can use an Apple Store or AASP.

However, it sounds like you've got the remainder of the one year warranty, but that technically isn't AppleCare or AppleCare+.
